BENIGN PAROXYSMAL POSITIONAL VERTIGO (BPPV)
BPPV is the most common cause of vertigo. This occurs because of a disruption in the function of the inner ear following a change in head position relative to gravity and produces a sudden onset of a spinning sensation. This condition usually comes on suddenly and is very debilitating. This condition does not always have a specific identifiable cause but can be related to head trauma. Past vestibular issues may also make recurrence of this issue more common
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
- Sensation of spinning with certain head and/or body positions
- Nausea and vomiting
- Sinus pain
HOW CAN PHYSICAL THERAPY HELP?
PT helps by identifying the specific part of your inner ear that is affected and performing certain positioning maneuvers. These maneuvers are very successful at resolving symptoms. PT also focuses on resolving any balance problems or other issues that may have developed.
