What Is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a technique where a very thin, sterile needle is inserted directly into a tight or irritated area in a muscle, often called a trigger point. These areas can develop after injuryrepetitive motion, or long periods of poor posture. Trigger points can cause sharp pain, restricted movement, or soreness that does not go away with stretching or massage.

By targeting these spots, the needle helps release muscle tension and stimulate healing within the tissue. The result is often improved movement and a noticeable decrease in pain.

Who Can Benefit from Dry Needling?

This technique is used to treat a wide range of conditions, especially when muscles are contributing to pain or loss of motion. Our therapists may recommend dry needling for:

We carefully evaluate your condition to decide if dry needling is a good fit for your treatment plan. It is never done without first explaining how it works and what to expect.

What to Expect from a Session

During a dry needling session, your therapist will insert a fine needle into the affected muscle tissue. Some patients feel a quick twitch in the muscle, which is a natural response. This usually means the right area has been reached.

After the treatment, you might notice mild soreness in the area, similar to the feeling after a hard workout. This is temporary and often followed by better mobility and less pain.
