Aquatic Therapy

Struggling with Pain or Restricted Mobility? Try Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy is an approach to physical therapy that utilizes the natural properties of water to help patients recover from injury and improve strength and mobility without putting excess pressure on the joints. Aquatic therapy at Peak Physical Therapy and Sports Performance provides a safe and supportive environment for healing and rehabilitation, no matter your needs.

What Is Aquatic Therapy?
Aquatic therapy involves performing therapeutic exercises in a heated pool. The water’s buoyancy reduces the strain on joints and muscles, making it easier to move with less pain. The water’s natural resistance also helps build strength and improve overall stability.
Aquatic therapy is not the same as swimming. Exercises generally occur in waist- or hip-deep water and typically mimic movements you perform on land. We might also use specialized equipment like water weights or kickboards.
Who Can Benefit From Aquatic Therapy?
Aquatic therapy is ideal for anyone looking for a gentle yet effective approach to managing long-term conditions or recovering from an injury, such as the following:
- Sports injuries or balance issues
- Post-operation rehab of total joint replacements.
- Post-operative fractures.
- Post-op ligament surgeries (ACL, rotator cuff repairs).
- Balance disorders.
- Neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, strokes, and Parkinson’s disease.
Benefits of Aquatic Therapy
Reduced Pain and Swelling
The buoyancy of water decreases the pressure on joints and tissues, alleviating pain and reducing inflammation. This makes it easier for you to perform exercises without the discomfort experienced on land.
Improved Range of Motion
The gentle support of water allows for greater freedom of movement, helping you restore mobility in stiff or injured joints.
Enhanced Strength and Balance
The natural resistance of water creates an ideal environment for building muscle strength and improving stability without putting unnecessary stress on the body..
Increased Relaxation
The warmth of the water promotes muscle relaxation and reduces tension, helping you feel more at ease during therapy sessions.

Our Aquatic Therapy is an exciting form of treatment, delivered by specially trained physical therapists in a pool setting. Not only is it a refreshing change of pace from land-based therapy, but can also be used in cases where individuals are in a great deal of pain and are not able to put full weight on limbs. The buoyancy of the water can reduce weight-bearing on the body by as much as 80%. It also has a positive impact on motion and flexibility, reduces pressure to joints, and can increase the blood flow to injured areas. Aquatic Therapy is a great way to gain motion, and in some cases, can help prepare you for landbased therapy.
